This year VCDS explored taking the program to the schools during the month of May. By doing so VCDS tripled the number of students mentored. We had 7 junior high middle schools participate and 35 volunteer coaches which mentored the 120 students. Our Jamboree was enjoyed by all that participated. Participating Schools: · Camarillo, Las Colinas · Oxnard, E.O. Green · Oxnard, Ocean View · Oxnard, RJ Frank · Simi Valley, Hillside · Ventura, Anacapa · Ventura, Missionary

How You Can Make a Difference
The Jamboree is designed to engage teams of youth from middle schools throughout Ventura County to develop and practice conflict management skills. The program aims to assist in violence prevention by training students to handle conflict constructively.
The Jamboree teaches the students what a peer mediator is, how they can help resolve conflicts peaceably and what steps to follow during an actual mediation. The students will have an opportunity to act as mediators and disputants using role playing. Professional mediators, will act as coaches for each team of students and give them guidance and feedback during the mediations. The Jamboree concludes with a ceremony to present the students with medals and certificates from VCDS acknowledging their conflict resolution skills and commitment to peace.
